As summer and the boating season began to wind down, for several of us house boaters at Crab Orchard, the boating season had really never got underway. So to celebrate Labor Day, those of us who have spent the summer in the 'perpetual boat tie up in the North Bay' gathered on our boats and held a supercalifragelistic pitch in feast--the menu included King Crab Legs, Shrimp Scampi, Brats, potato casserole, salads, and desserts...brownies and ........MMMMMM. The company, food and weather just couldn't have been much better.
And the main topic of discussion continued to be speculation about the fate of the boat docks and whether we would have to pull our boats out of the water for the winter.
It wasn't until we got a letter in the mail around September 12 from the US Fish and Wildlife Service announcing they were going to have a Houseboat Owners Meeting on September 18 to discuss plans for rebuilding the docks. Finally, after four months, we were told the docks would be rebuilt by dock specialist contractors and they hoped to have the new docks ready by the beginning of the 2010 boating season. However, most of our boats will need to be pulled out of the water by the end of October, and dry docked for the winter. And finally--an answer as to whether we will have boat docks again at Crab Orchard Marina!
