As anyone who has traveled around the Southern Illinois countryside can tell you, this region of the State, often referred to as The Land Between the Rivers, showcases such natural works of nature as The Shawnee National Forest, the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, The Garden of the Gods, and Cave In Rock, to name a few, and it also has an equal amount of man made works of beauty. One of the newer places of interest is the Blue Sky Vineyard and Winery. Perched on a hillside in Union County, IL, and surrounded by miles of hills and hardwood timber, the Vineyard and its grounds is one of the most peaceful places a person can spend some down time. We had such an occasion on the afternoon of Saturday, August 22, to kick back and enjoy the ambience of this wonderful country retreat and to also celebrate the 40th birthday of one of our dear friends, Cheryl Dillon, at a surprise party for her hosted by her husband, Matt and children Trey and Addie.
The weather was picture perfect and Cheryl couldn't have been more surprised by the gathering of family, co-workers, boating and lake friends, and many other family and friends. Matt and his team of party planners, treated the party goers to a wonderful afternoon lunch of pulled pork BBQ and lots of wonderful sides, plus lucious chocolate dipped strawberries and a beautiful birthday cake, and of course various wines from the winery.
It was a beautiful afternoon and we all enjoyed relaxing at Blue Sky and helping Cheryl celebrate her 40th birthday.
Happy Birthday, Cheryl, and we wish you many, many more!
One of the highlights of the afternoon was a magician, who delighted the crowd with his wondrous balloon sculptures. He honored the birthday girl by creating a lovely crown, fit for a queen of course, featuring a birthday candle that sprang from the top of the hat.
