Fred's December 12th birthday fell on a Saturday this year giving us the opportunity to celebrate his turning another year younger with friends almost the whole day long. Having picked up Shelley after work on Friday she was home to spend the weekend. We got Fred's birthday off to a great start by meeting friends, Dick and Ruth Pommer at Houlihans for breakfast. We hadn't seen Ruth and Dick for several months because they are residing at their northern Illinois home until January; however, they were in southern Illinois after returning from a trip to Nashville, TN to see the Rocketts at the Gaylord Opera Land Hotel. It was nice to meet with them and catch up on what they have been up to over the summer and fall.
Following breakfast we returned back to the house to get ready for a the Saluki men's basketball afternoon game...and they came through with a win (especially for Fred, of course!) over Alabama State. Following the game, we stopped back by the house to take Sophie for a walk and then headed to the Monarch in Herrin to meet with our 'Laker' gang to help Fred turn over another year. As always, the food, drinks and company were exceptional! We enjoyed a fun evening with the Lake Gang and no matter whether its a summer party on the boat dock or a birthday celebration in the midst of winter, this group always warms your heart and soul.
